Communications Intern - Fall 2020 

 

Overview: 

Communication interns work with AFL staff to create public-facing content and receive hands-on experience in communications and marketing. The Communication intern will work directly with the Special Projects Coordinator to develop and execute the company’s communication plan. This is a remote position with regular webinar meetings. AFL is based out of Denver, CO. Candidate must have access to a computer and reliable internet and phone access. 

 

Start/end dates:  09/01/20 – 12/11/20, this is a part-time, unpaid internship (15 hours per week, $12-15 per hour)  

Responsibilities: 

The Communications internship offers the opportunity to build and strengthen professional skills particularly in research, writing, marketing, and interpersonal communications.  

Interns will: 

  • Work with subject matter experts and AFL staff to write blog posts for the company’s website 

  • Create engaging content for the AFL social media channels 

  • Seek out new social media avenues and ways of connecting with audiences 

  • Develop a social media schedule and strategy 

  • Coordinate the communications process with internal and external stakeholders 

  • Research creative and innovative ideas to promote the company through digital, print, and other channels 

  • Update AFL website as needed 

  • Research and analyze competitor marketing and sales materials 

  • Assist in the design and development of marketing materials  

  • Other duties as assigned  

 

Qualifications: 

Candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate program with a major in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.  

 

Should also have: 

  • Exceptional written communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Experience and interest in marketing communications, public relations, digital marketing, or brand storytelling  

  • Curiosity and interest in public health  

  • Proficiency in social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn 

  • Ownership of work; a self-starter who can prioritize tasks and manage their time 

  • A strong sense of responsibility and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maximum accountability 

  • A strong eye for detail 

  • Available at least 15 hours per week between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. MT

Public Health Intern 

 

Start/end dates: 09/01/20 – 12/31/20, this is a part-time, paid internship (10 to 20 hours per week, $20 per hour)

 

Location: Denver, CO – this is a remote position, with regular webinar meetings. Candidate must have access to a computer, reliable internet and phone access, and a professional workspace.

Purpose and Description of the Project:

Public health interns work with consulting staff to support projects and receive hands-on experience in public health practice. The role of the Public Health Intern is to research public health issues, review and monitor emerging state and national policy, manage a project workplan, and support public health meetings via webinar.

Responsibilities: 

The public health internship offers the opportunity to build and strengthen professional skills particularly in project management, analysis, writing, organization, and interpersonal communications. Interns conduct research and analysis to develop fact sheets, issue briefs and other educational resources for professional audiences. Other responsibilities may include attending relevant briefings and seminars, participating in public events, providing support for meetings and webinars and assisting with committee and partner meetings.

 

Qualifications: 

Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for paid internships. The internships are extremely beneficial to those seeking to acquire practical work experience. Candidates should be working toward a bachelors, graduate, or postgraduate degree. Candidates should also have:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ownership of work; a self-starter who can prioritize tasks and manage your time

  • Strong interest in public health policy issues 

  • A strong sense of responsibility and ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maximum accountability
