Working with five Colorado Foundations, we developed and launched an innovative initiative to deliver preventive services to children through medical-dental collaboration. Initial evaluation results of the initiative found that children who had received at least four fluoride varnish applications by the age of 3 had significantly fewer decayed, missing or filled surfaces—a significant finding that changed the way we now think about preventing and managing disease. See the evaluation results. Cavity Free at Three is now managed by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
